Last week I created a pop3 notes user and I upgraded his database to iNotes Web Access. The user wouldn't pop on the domino server so I forward his mail to another pc (Linuxpc).

Now the problem is that when we add the user to a group calender we don't see his free and busy time, we see that there is no info for this user.(we changed his free and busy time like any other user)Also when we add the user to the groupcalender we see the forwarding address and not the notes address.

Is there a solution that we can see his free and busytime?

When we would like to see his personal calender via Open calender that works but, when we open his calender with the group calender we receive "Unable to open user's mail database" probably because the user is showed with his forwarding address? Correct?

When we add a meeting to this user with "schedule a meeting" the meeting is not add or displayed in his calender????

How is that possible? Because of the forwarding address?

Is there no other solution that someone can forward his mail to another server and that his calender works fine?

I hope that someone can help me?

Hi,

Can you explain in detail what you mean by "forward to another PC"?

Normally you would REPLICATE a user his mailbox to a Domino server that is running the HTTP task so the user can use iNotes on that server.

If a user is using a Notes Client locally to handle his e-mail and calendar en scheduling then he must be sure that replication for his mail database is going in 2 directions otherwise only e-mail will replicate correctly. Calendar and To Do entries will not replicate to the server and will therefore not be visible for the other users. Default Notes only puts one way replication on the mailbox.

So, if you can provide a bit more detail about how you have set this up then we might be able to pinpoint the problem.

Hi Dominik,

Well I will you explain how I forward his mail to another pc. In the person document with Mail I filled in the forwarding address like F.demeyer@linuxpc5.domain.be. That's all.

We gave the user last week the Outlook Connector and it seems that is goes great.

But I would like to know what cause the problem and what is the solution.

Hi,

OK, that is clear, but wat is running on that linux PC?

Does your forwarded e-mail end up in a Domino database that is then accessed by the user (If yes: your setup is wrong, you need to replicate instead of forwarding).

If not: where does the e-mail end up? In some other mailserver such as SendMail? That is non-Domino and as such can not handle any calendar and scheduling requests.

It can only work if your user access his mailbox directly on a Domino server and if the other users who need to access his schedule are accessing the same mailfile or a REPLICA of it. A copy that receives forwarded e-mails will not transfer C&S information.

Dominik,

We only add the forwarding address in the person document. I thought that with this change the mail went to a certain address.

Why we use the linuxpc because this system is not going down all night with AS/400 for Domino we IPL daily.

For example: We have two users who goes often to the far east. They are a notes user but they use outlook to manage their mail. (without outlook connector). So we forward their mail from notes to their private e-mailaddress. (They can't log on to our domino-server,not yet) So we add in the person document the private e-mailaddress to the forwarding address.

That is what we do with these users. So is that the correct way to forward their mail and maybe their calender and schedule info? Not only add the forwarding address.

What must we do when a user ask us to forward his mailfile to another user? With an agent => when new mail arrives send to user x or adding the forwarding address?

Kind regards,

Francis De Meyer.

Hi,

Your method will work fine for e-mail but Calendar & Scheduling will never work because you forward to another e-mail address that is non-notes (private address from an ISP).

Your users should use there iNotes powered Outlook to connect to a Domino server directly which contains a replica of their Notes database. This way it will work.

If these people are travelling then they even do not need to carry a portable. They can go to any computer with an internet connection and access their iNotes account.

If they insist to carry a portable with them then they can use a Notes Client on them and just replicate with your server using an internet connection. This requires some configuration however.

Finally:

Notes does not accept a forwarding address AND a mailbox name in the persons document. When you insert a forwarding address, Notes ignores the mailbox entry, and that mailbox is therefore no longer used. Some servers can even crash when you provide both.

PS: Next time they visit the Far-East: tell them to drop in for a drink with me! ;-)
