I was experimenting with editing the notes.ini file on a Windows 2k Pro PC, and after doing so, Notes would launch, but not bring up the login screen, it just sits at a gray window. I have to reboot the PC to close it, as it locks up if I try to close or end task on it.
I am now just trying to start from scratch. I don't have a backup of the notes.ini.
I've tried un/reinstalling. Same thing.
I've tried uninstalling, then manually deleting c:\lotus, then reinstalling. Same thing.
I've tried copying over another user's notes.ini. It gives a message saying it can't open the [username].wsf, and closes immediately.
How to I purge Notes from this PC completely?

I've had some similar events where nothing seems to work. In those cases I often have success when I not only delete and then manually purge the files, but I change the destination on the reinstall. Instead of "c:\lotus", I'll make it "c:\lotus1". The registry apparently sees it as entirely different and I don't inherit any previous problems existing the in the registry. Hope that helps.

Thank you for replying rdannand, have a star.
It was worth a shot, but it had no effect this time.

The frustrating thing is, I've done this (deleted all but the first 4 lines from notes.ini) many, many times and it's always done exactly what I wanted, caused the setup wizard to be invoked the next time Notes is run. I don't know why it's behaving this way on this PC!

did you check for the existence of another notes.ini? Woonjas

Thanks woonjas, there were no other notes.ini files. There wasn't even a Lotus folder!
I ended up wiping and reloading the OS. Reinstalled Notes, it's obviously working fine now...
