I am trying to export a notes database(!) to access/mysql.
i was wondering if you could help me find a way of identifying field names on a form.
when you switch a form to design mode and click on a field properties it just says
type:keywords.
the reason i want to do this is because the only way i have found to get info from
the notes DB is to create a custom 'view' with info i want, but because the person
who created the notes DB has hundreds of fields (god knows what they all are!)
and the form that i want to copy does not tell me which fields i need, i am resorting
to going through each field one by one until the info I need is shown in the view.
ne ideas welcome/need more info, let me know

In a view that lists the documents you want to get field information from, right click and select Document Properties. On the second tab you will find a list of all the fields in the document on the left side and on the right side the values of field in that document.

I don't understand why it doesn't show you the name in Designer though. In designer when you open the form, select a field and right click, you should get 'Field' in the left side of the title bar, if it says Form or Database or Layout, change it to the Field selection, then in the NAME of the Field Properties, you can find the name of the field you are looking for.

thanks for replying leslie,
a couple of things...

if i change the properties box to document i get a list of all fields one of which is 'risk_notes' but if i create a view and try to choose the field it is not shown in the field list.

also how do you switch to 'designer' mode in notes
is it an addon?

You have to have the Lotus Domino Designer program installed before you can do any design.

Is risk_notes a hidden field on the form?

Hi,

downloaded trial of designer which has helped understand construction of forms and views but...
in form design the field Risk_Notes is not hidden and appears not to have any formula
its type is text
in the design of my view I still cannot see a field called Risk_Notes - surely this info must be somewhere in the field list?

I have to say, I've never encountered this situation. I'll look around and see if I can find any thing relevant.

Sorry I can't help more, perhaps someone else will be able to offer some insight!

On the document containing the field risk_notes, open the document properties and choose said field.
Check the Field Flags in the info pane on the right. If the word SUMMARY is not there, that means that the field has been created in Script and has not been flagged for being viewed in a view.
When you create fields on a form, or via Formulas, the SUMMARY flag is automatically set to TRUE, and all such fields can be viewed in a view. When you create fields in Script, you must intentionally set the SUMMARY flag for the field to be viewable in a view. There are several ways to create a field in Script, so there might be one that is an exception to this. However, I believe you will not find the SUMMARY flag in the risk_notes field, and this is the only explanation I can offer.

Pascal.
