I have inherited a Notes 4.5 server. Need to change scripts in the existing databases. My past experience is that that the design option was in the pull down menus.

All the Notes manuals I read state that to edit a database, all I should have to do is click on the database, pull down VIEW and then choose DESIGN. However, from my Notes Desktop, if I click on the database then pull down VIEW, there is no Design button.

I have administrative control over the database.

The old sys admin left under bad terms, so I can't call him to see how he edited these forms.

Is it possible he removed the DESIGN option or is there a startup parameter or another program I should use to get to the desing for this database.

Thanks

You need a separate program (Domino Designer) installed in order to access the design aspects of Notes.

Appreciate that.

Is the Domino Designer different than the FORMS DESIGNER you can install with the Notes client?

I've reloaded the Notes client making sure the Designer options were selected. Verified that I have rights to DESIGNER access. Still no option to VIEW/DESIGN. Its been years since I touched Notes, so I am sure it is something very stupid that I am overlooking.

I don't know, I didn't set my system up, it was all already there (but I think it is the Form Designer option just cause that sounds right)!! Do you have Designer access to the database? You may need to have the ACL adjusted so you have the proper rights.

R4 is already long time ago for me (4 years), but maybe the same as in R5 works:

Click with your right mouse button on the database icon and choose "Open in Designer". I do not have an R4 client anymore to check this.

It is also possible that your angry administrator that left your company hided the design of your databases. In that case you will need to get your hands on the templates to modify the design!
