Hello,

Does anyone know of anyway to stop people typing distribution lists into the TO Field.

eg - Someone recently sent an email with the mailing group AllCustomers and put it in the TO field. Which caused disclosure of all the email addresses

Normally they would use the BCC field which solves the issue but occasionally people make mistakes.

Any help would be useful.

Thankyou, John

If you're an admin, you can control who can see the group. In the address book, right-click on the group and select properties, then click on the security tab (with the key icon). You can then define who can see the group in the window below.

If you are an admin, that is exactly the thing you will not do.
Groups are not meant to be hidden. If you don't want users to use them, don't create them.

On the other hand, groups can be assigned a Type setting. If you do not want a group to be used for mailing, then you can have it assigned to Access Only status. In that case, though, NOBODY will be able to use it for mail.

If you have to have a group for mail, but do not want it to be public, then it should simply not be in the server NAB - have the users who should use it put it in their personal address books.
That, of course, entails update and maintenance issues.

A headache all around.

Pascal.

I've got nothing to hide, and I'd very much like to keep that away from prying eyes.
