the following happened to me many times:

when the user opens his email database he gets the a message
" This database is currently being used by somone else. In order to share a Notes database, all users must use a domino Server instead of a File Server" and the database would't open and only way I found is to restart the server himself.

can you tell me what the couse of this and/or is there any other way apart from restarting the server "Domino 5" to enable the user opening his email. Please give me a clue

Problem
When you (a Notes mail user) attempt to access your mail file, the following error occurs:

"This database is currently being used by someone else. In order to share a Notes database, all users must use a Notes Server instead of a File Server."

You cannot access your mail file until the Notes server is recycled (unlocking the mail database).

Solution
This issue was first reported with a backup program called BackupExec, by Seagate. The issue was not reproduced by Lotus, but the problem was caused by the Router attempting to open and deposit mail while the file was being backed up.

In some backup programs, there is a parameter that locks the file while it is being backed up. This allows for the most recent changes to be backed up at that time. However, a mailfile is constantly changing and this is not required. In the case of Seagate's program, Technical Support stated that, when this problem is encountered, the Backup Open Files parameter should be set to "Yes - without lock".

To enable the Backup Open Files parameter:

1. In BackupExec, select Tools, Options from the menu.
2 Select the Backup tab.
3. Change the "Backup Open Files" parameter to "Yes - without lock."

This parameter change allows the file to be backed up while it is in an open state. Note, however, that the current changes are not included in the backup.
