Running Win XP on a new HP machine. Notepad is not there. Have no idea, other than a recent virus infestation. How can I re-install it?

Look in c:\Windows\System32 folder and see if notepad.exe is in there. If it is, the shortcut probably got accidently deleted. You can recreate the shortcut by right-clicking it and choosing "Create Shortcut".

There are two locations for Notepad, C:\WINDOWS\NOTEPAD.EXE or C:\WINDOWS\system32\notepad.exe.

If it really is missing you can copy it from any other XP machine and replace it. You may be able to "Expand" it from your XP CD (or Source Files) by using the MsConfig tool.
