First off I've never worked on a nortel system, to help a friend I will try. They want to add a fax machine using the ata ports, this will be strictly outgoing. My question is, is the ata ports internal and if so what lead designation do they use. There is no documentation on prem. The system is a Nortel Norstar Modular ICS 5.0.
Many thanks in advance,Bill7746

I don't think cics has an internal ATA. You'll have to get one. Try ebay, and look for ATA2, they are designed to handle higher modem speed than the original ATA. Once plugged, they is very little config to make. It might work out-of-the-box (dial 9 to get outside line), otherwise, the document that comes with it will tell you how to configure it through the cics configuration...

The CICS most certainly does have an Internal ATA it is on the Yellow/Slate pair off of the external lines amphenol cable. The Modular ICS does not have an IATA, therefore, yes Bill will need to purchase an ATA. Install the ATA on a station port and plug the fax machine into that.
To enable your customer to simply go off hook on the fax and dial the desired phone number (without having to dial 9 etc.)
Scenario:This customer has a fax machine attached to the MICS via an ATA. When faxing out of the system they use a line access code of 9 and then the desired recipient telephone number. They want to simply dial the number without dialing the access code when faxing.
Solution:
1. Under Services, build a Route and point it to a Pool Group. Then build a Destination Code and point it to the Route.
2. Under Terminals & Sets/Line Access change PRIME LINE: NONE to INTERCOM for the analog station.
3. Under Terminals & Sets/Capabilities change HOTLINE:__ to be EXTERNAL, then HOTLINE DIGITS DIALED OUT: to be the Destination Code in step 1 and then change the USE LINE:__ to be USE ROUTING TABLE.
4. Give the station in question Line Pool Access to the Pool Group in step 1.

Ah but... the system above is stated to be an MICS 5.0.

Which is why I said, "The Modular ICS does not have an IATA, therefore, yes Bill will need to purchase an ATA." p-)

Right, or an ASM depending on how many fax machines they want to use. But you are definitely Right.

It is more easy. Go to External Hotline an enter feature*78. You will able to dial only to outside.

Mel and Jet(as long as you give them pool access) are both right here, love Mel and her routes,Mel rules routes :) ~Will Nortel soon be NoTel??~
