Hi I have an e machines notebook computer that I am having a problem with. When the computer is running a program for a little while it will shut off, when it does this the bottom of the computer it very hot so I am thinking that it is some kind of problem that is related to that......Any ideas???? Thanks

Yes it is heat related. It may be a bad stick of memory. I had a compaq lap top given to me that several shops said the hard drive was bad. The machine had a bad memory stick 65.00 later I have a great machine.

So, the memory fails under heat? Run memtest86 to confirm, you should start seeing errors once it heats up.

On the one I had the cover plate for the memory would get extreamly hot. The chip it self was hot enough to burn you.

It could be the processor is overheating, maybe if the fan is not working so not cooling it properly. When you use the laptop do you sit it on your knee, on a cusion or any other surface that isn't flat? It could be something is stopping the air getting out from the vents which are usually in the side of the laptop.

Here are 3 things you can check right away:

1. Check to make sure nothing is blocking air vents if possible (for instance, place the laptop on a smooth, hard surface for running it, and make sure nothing is at the sides. If that works, it was blocked air flow.

2. Check to see if you hear the fan running at all - especially when the machine gets hot (some laptops do get very hot - it seems they are getting much better at not getting so hot, lately).

3. Another thing to check is the AC power adapter and/or battery - it is possible it's an electrical problem.

Another note: try posting your Laptop model# here, so others can possibly better trouble-shoot it based on common occurrences with that particular model.
