Hello, In SQL 2000 a job failed last night. The job history states the problem and then says

NOTE: Failed to notify 'djj' via email. NOTE: Failed to notify 'Pager' via pager.

This is not good as users were unable to work until I got the programs rerun which took about 2 hours. At night the processes only take a total of a half hour but with others accessing the database (I am stuck with Access front end) it takes a long time not to mention the time to find the problem.

Thanks for any help.

Your job failed and the alert you set up didn't complete successfully. I'm lost, are you wondering why it didn't?

-If it ain't broke, break it and make it better.

Yes. If it can say it did not why can it not either tell me why or send it?

Thank you,
djj

Sometimes SQL just simply can't send the email. Either it can't talk to the Exchange server correctly, or SQL Mail threw a fault of some sort, or Outlook threw a fault, or MAPI threw a fault.

Try downloading xp_smtp_sendmail and setup a job step so that if any other steps fail it just that step. Setup that step to use xp_smtp_Sendmail to send you an email via SMTP (bypassing Outlook, MAPI and exchange).

Thank you,
I will give your suggestion a try. This is better than the idea I had while trying to sleep last night, I had thought to run some sort of program to query the job status.

Man do I hate it when I start thinking of work when I am in bed!

Thanks again,
djj

No problem.
