I am not sure what I need exactly. I am trying to generate multiple reports that are generated automatically, and emailed to different people in different departments via SMTP. I currently am using CR 8.5 (professional) however I am not sure whether I need CE to do this or not. Are there any licensing issues involved with this ? Can it be done in CR 8.5 ? Do I even need CE ? This is my most important need. However, I am also looking into failure notification if the SMTP server fails ? Can I integrate crystal into my department website so my managers can just generate their own reports ?? I have no idea what products do what. If anyone can provide any insight on this issues I would appreciate it greatly.

If you want your managers to run their own reports, auto-email stuff and integrate CR into your own website, then CE would be a good place to start if you are willing to spend the money.

It works well "out of the box", but with just a little work it can be customized to fit in with your corporate image.

Alternatively you could create your own asp pages to open and view your reports, but this is much more difficult/time consuming.

Thanks for the quick response. Yes I have thought of just coding some ASP pages however I do not know how to code an exporter so the end user can export to .rtf format.

I think CE is the best solution thus far, I am looking at that and SQL reporting services. I think price will be the determining factor for what I have researched they both seem to do the same thing with little effort. Or work "out of the box" like you said.

Does anyone have any opinions on CE vs. SQL reporting services ? Or should I post a new thread ;)
