(Not) Seeing Red...

Suddenly, the color red is missing from all my CorelDRAW pallets (Draw, Photo-Paint, R.A.V.E.) Searching through the different pallets also shows no signs of red. Even the color mixers have no options for creating red, since the red bands that used to reside at the one end of the color prism in the color editor has now been replaced with orange. This is something new, since the red was there the last time I used any of the Corel applications. Pure red exists in MS Paint and a couple other graphics programs I have, so it seems to be an issue exclusive to the DRAW suite.

Not seen this one before, if other colours have changed could be a colour manager thing or you could try F8 at start up to restore factory defaults. What colour model are you using ie rgb/cmyk/Pantone spot (which one)try putting 100% yellow and 100% magenta fill in a square this should give a nice vibrant red.

Hi Alan, thanks for your response.

I use the RGB color set, but have tried all the others in trying to get red back. It was there up until recently. I was contemplating the F8 reset tecnique but didn't want to lose all my customizations if it didn't work (and besides, it's the entire CorelDRAW suite that's affected (including Photo-Paint and R.A.V.E). The funny thing is, the swatch where red originally resided is still called "red" in the color's name field of the color mixer (under the pallets tab), but it's actually orange.

You can save your customised workspace before F8 and them import back again. Is it possible you have altered the colour in the pallete and resaved. What are your rgb values for that orange? What version of Draw are you using?

The RGB values for the usurping orange swatch are 255, 0, 0 which I believe are the values for red. The F8 reset turned out not to help either. Your suggestion that I may have altered the color and then unwittingly saved over it could very likely be, knowing me - but wouldn't reinstating the RGB default pallet (or any of the other pallets) clear any customizations?

I sense a "reinstall Corel DRAW" coming...

(I'm using version 10 on an XP machine with all the service packs tacked on. And thanks again for your time.)

255 should indeed be a rich red. I suppose you could try another monitor just to check that but I'm stumped - sorry. Try putting the question on the Corel NG (support on the Corel web site) someone there maybe able to help further.

Just to add to the previous post, V10 was not a good version for me and many others if you use Draw frequently upgrade to a higher version maybe a better bet. I went from V10 to V12 and I am very satisfied.

Well, I'll give reinstalling a shot and see how that goes. Since red existed last week I'm thinking it must've been some bone-headed thing I did to banish it from the Corel realm. Other than that, v10 has been a smooth ride for the most part.

Thanks...

Update: RESOLVED.

Reinstalling wasn't necessary. After a little more poking around I tried the "Color Pallets > Open Pallet" choice on the Window Menu. There were 2 files there with a *.cpl extension. I tried the coreldrw one and...I got my red back. Before, I was trying pallets from the menus and dialog boxes, but this last time I loaded one from the disk.

So all is well until I f* something else up (which I will, don't worry). Thanks for your input.

Glad everything is resolved. Happy new year to you.
