I have a Ghost backup of a failed drive. I got an external drive and copied the failed drive backup to it via a second, good, pc. My plan is to load the copied drive back into the failed drive's pc or swap out the drives. When I plugged the external drive into the good pc to check it after copying it, I don't get a drive letter assigned anymore, but the pc see's the external device as "USB 2.0 Storage Device". I am scratching my head as to why no assigned drive letter and what should I look at next. The external drive is good and Norton Ghost copied everything with no error messages. Does any one have a thought? All advice welcome. Thanks.

I'm thinking you GHOSTED the failed computer drive TO the external drive INSTEAD of putting an file (a .GHO file) onto the external hard drive. Those are two different things/options when ghosting a drive.

But then again, why would you not at least be able to see the external drive on a 2nd, good PC.

What does Disk Management show about the external drive when it's attached to the 2nd computer???

Are there any question marks in Device Manager??

Is the drive even listed under "disk drives" in Device Manager??
