Hi

Im trying to do a clean reinstall on a PC, When I restart the computer using the boot disk nothing happens, it just loads up windows xp, Its the first reinstall I've ever tried so Im not to sure what the problem is, could it be that its reading the C drive rather than the floppy drive and I need to change the BIOS.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Paul

In a word - yes to your last question.

When you say boot disk - do you mean floppy or CD? Because to install XP, best way is to boot from the install CD.

Either way, go into the bios settings (usually displays which key(s) to hit to do this on POST screen) and check first boot device is the one you want (floppy or CD). Obviously change it if its wrong.

If still won't boot from 1st device, could be defective floppy/CD disk. Also, I think some older CD ROM drives may not support being booted from (I've got one that won't on old test machine).

Thanks wolluf, ive now changed it to read the cd rom.

Cheers

Paul
