Here's a unique problem. I have one computer that cannot ping / communicate with one IP address on our network.

This computer can see and browse the network with no problem. It can ping any address on the network except this one. It is a DHCP client and is receiving all necessary addresses and info. The IP Address is to our email server. No one else is having problems accessing this address or that server.

Ideas?

check your hardware I would try the connection to the hub and then look at the NIC. Jeter@LasVegas.com

It gets access to everywhere else. Its only ONE IP address it cant access.

Hi,

Is this a switched environment with vlans or token-ring ? Assuming this box is on the same subnet, what does 'arp -a' say after you try to ping ? If M$/Windows, is winsock proxy in use on the client & properly configured insofar as the lat is concerned ?

Rgds

We have two switches...

Other on the same hub have to problem access this address if that helps.

do a trace route on the pc and see where it ends. Jeter@LasVegas.com

If your using NT try a "route print" from the DOS prompt, check persistent routes. The tracert and arp -a already mentioned above should have indicate what was happening.

good luck

Hi,

Is this ethernet or token-ring ? Also can you describe in what way the client & target pcs are connected into switches ?

PROBLEM SOLVED... kinda...

The computer was on on DCHP. Just gave it another IP address and not it can have access to this one other address.

Anyone ever heard of this.... one IP Address being to access all others except one?

Does your email server have a secondary address configured? Could be on second interface or on single interface. Maybe another peice of equipment between the pc & server, a switch maybe?

Cheers,

Mark ;-)

there is are 2 switches between the computer and server.
