I'm trying to connect to a Solaris 2.8 machine and after I put user and password
I get the message:

Not on system console
Connection closed.

Could anybody help me ??

Thanks & Regards.

If the file /etc/default/login has an entry console=/dev/console then root can only log on at the console (or via an su – command). Comment this line out to allow access via a telnet session.

Thaks ayjaycee. I could do it.

No prob.

NB: as others have pointed out before, this is considered a security risk, so only do it if you're sure about the security of your LAN ;-) Even then, it's preferable to log in as yourself & then su - to root. TandA

actually it's preferable to use ssh (encrypted telnet). Packet sniffers would be able to pickup any transaction on a normal telnet.
