I am using "not logged initially" to avoid filling up application logs. However, it seems to be much slower doing inserts this way than with the logging permitted. Inserting 1 million rows with "not logged initially" enabled takes over an hour but just 10 minutes with the option switched off.

Has anyone got any idea why it is so much slower ?

However, a word of caution - if you are in a recovery situation, and are rolling forward through logs, this table will be marked as drop pending. As long as the data is available and reloadable from elsewhere or within the db that should be OK. Else, the data will be lost.
