Here it is:

We have a Cisco Catalyst 4506 (main swith, STP root) with a Nortel 350 connected via 100mb fiber connection. PC is connected to the Nortel 350.

If I release the DHCP address on the Windows 98 PC, reboot, then I get an APIPA address when it comes back up. I don't get a DHCP lease until I manually renew the address with winipcfg.

If I connect the PC directly to the Catalyst 4506, I don't have this problem.

Any info would be GREATLY appreciated!

TIA

Once the IP address is issued, what does winipcfg say is the dhcp ip? It sounds to me like the routing tables aren't getting the w98 system's request for ip thru to the 4506. TCP/IP is "default" protocol, right?

Hope this helps.

msi4mfr, I finally resolved this issue. I had to drop back and reflash an earlier version of IOS on the Nortel switch. That fixed the issue. I would have never thought that if we didn't just have a buggy issue(s) with the Cisco 4506, which we had to drop back 2 versions on that.

Thanks for your input.
