Hi all,
I'm not so up on my DNS/router setting stuff so I consider this a noobie question.
I have two laptops that have built in wireless cards but I use one USB external to swap between the two, to connect to two networks within my range. Last week there was a region-wide downtime of 24 hours or so that appears to have left my connection disabled. My brother suggested that I 'repair' my connection by flushing out the chached DNS setting and this seemed to work...temporarily.
- Symptoms
Most websites I can't hit. I can download email but not send. I can connect, via ftp, my web server but when I try and upload a new file it gets stuck. I can stream BBC radio 4 fine. I can hit google.co.uk but I can't get to gmail. And so on...
- Solutions tried so far
Took both laptops to a third wifi network. Successfully connected one laptop (Acer) but not the other (Dell).
Repaired my connection setting on the Dell and successfully connected to the third network.
Sat next to the router of one of the other networks and the Acer worked fine, the Dell didn't.
Got back to the boat and plugged in the USB card to the Acer and connected ok to one of my two networks and for about half an hour I even had the Acer ICSing with the Dell. Then the connection dropped. The Acer is really slow again and the Dell laptop no longer connects to either network with the USB card.
Tried reinstalling my driver but that didn't make any difference either.
I've done system restores and repeated repairs but it's just not happening. Both the Dell and the Acer, using the USB card, are back to the symptoms described above. It will take me 30 minutes to post this thread because the browser just hangs.
Anybody got any tips on resetting my settings?
