hello, can anyone help.
a friend got a very nasty virus, don't know the specifics.
anyway i not have his hard drive, i connected it to my pc with a USB to SATA IDE cable, powered up, but didn't find it.
put it directly into my PC, got error beeps.
disconnected my hard drive and tried to just run his, blue screen followed by automatic restart.
any advice??

nkelson - so this is a SATA drive? Is your drive SATA too? You're saying that with both drives connected, machine beeps/won't boot - but it will with either singly? You are connecting drives correctly?

btw - what are you trying to achieve here? - booting your PC with his drive even if it worked isn't much use - as i presume he has problems booting with it in his! (you'd need to run a repair reinstall to get this to work - not a good idea with malware on the loose). If you're just looking to get data off, how about booting machine (either) with his hard drive inside, external drive attached using a BartPE disk (google to find how to make). Can then copy files off.

my drive is using SATA but doesn't have to. the other drive has to use SATA. there definetly connected properly.
what i'm simply trying to do is scan the hard drive with antivirus, i did a few weeks ago with another hard drive worked fine, however can't scan the harddrive if i can't see it.
