Hi there,

I am running SCO Unix 2.1.2

Oneof of our scripts runs a massive sort and runs out of space. My understanding is that the sort runs in /var/tmp

Our root directory is only small and I presume that it is not good to use this directory for the process.

Should I then link this /var/tmp to another area where there is no space problems. Could you help me out with the syntax for this.

Also how do you remove exsisting links.

Thanks for your help.

regards
Mark

The sort command has an option to redirect where the temporary files will be.
Use the -T option followed by a space and then the area you want to use for the temporary files. you remove links the same way you remove a file, with the rm command.

The only thing I would add is never link /var/tmp to somewhere else - if the link gets broken you may have no workable /tmp and many user/system utilites use this workspace.
