Hello,

I have a PIII 800 Mhz Windows 98 SE fully updated system. I've had it for over 1 year now. Recently I began to expereince glitches which I belive are Memory oriented (cache, RAM, don't know) I have 256 MB ram. Very little in my systems tray, including norton antivirus. Everytime I close my internt browser window, it closes down in "progressive steps" In others words when I hit x, the window closes down top to bottom in a horizontally jagged pattern. I've defraged, virus scaned, etc. Any ideas why. And I have mupltple windows open, always it's the last window to do so, not the others. HELP please. drashish@excite.com DrAsh

Considerations:

Is your boot drive's free storage less that 10% and/or under 300MB? Do you routinely check for and clean out *.tmp files? [Virtual memory and swap file may be suboptimal with memory taking the hit.]

Are Temp Internet files stored on boot drive? [May help if you delete files and/or reassign to another partition or reduce resource allocation]

Any recent installs of software or hardware to coincide with you RECENT situation changes? Any setup difficulty encountered?

**Do you have a virus checking program [you answered yes]which was always kept reasonably current? Have you ever been affected by a virus?

Do you use a firewall? [Possible point of alert to stresses on CPU and memory due to unauthorized (controllable) and undesired malware -incoming or outgoing processes - fix or identify using Ad-aware or Optout freeware]

If it's just the browser acting up, try this first:

- Go to Tools->Internet Options inside the browser
- On the General tab, click settings under temporary internet files
- On the next screen, hit View Files
- After the list of files are displayed, hit CTRL-A on your keyboard to select all files.
- Hit Delete on your keyboard and say *yes to also delete the cookies.
- Close that window and hit OK twice.
- Close the browser and go to Start->Find->Files and Folders
- In the Named field, type *.tmp
- Make sure the Look in: field says the entire C: drive and click Find Now.
- Delete all results (CTRL-A followed by delete on the keyboard)
- empty your recycle bin and reboot

*Note: If you are extra-sensitive about your cookies or aren't sure if it's a good idea to annihilate them, then say NO at the cookie deletion prompt!

Hope this helps...
