Hi

Recently reports scheduled via CE cannot be exported to (or scheduled as) PDF documents. The error: There was an error retrieving data from the server: Not enough memory for operation. Does this have anything to do with the available disk space on the server, or is there an underlying problem to this?

Hi,

Are there any other scheduled jobs running at the same time? There may not be enough system resources available to handle multiple jobs.

CE creates huge temp files during processing. What is the location used for the job server's temp files? Is it on the C drive? You can check this by going to Servers--> Reportjobserver--> Properties within the CMC. You might be better off pointing the temp files to a LARGE D: drive.

As far as I know, no other jobs were sheduled. And it does not apply to all reports, only larger ones. Does it make sense to delete the temp files, or is this where the historical instances are held?
The hard disks on that server has been set up to both act as the C: and the are mirrored to share the workload. We are however getting a new server in the near future (higher spec), but in the mean time customers need to create their reports in PDF.
Any ideas?

Hi,

You should not have to manually delete the temp files. CE should clean up it’s own mess.
However, having said that, I would check the temp directory for space and increase capacity as a first step. I’d also delete any lingering temp files if present.

Historical instances are stored in a different directory. You can check where through the CMC by navigating to Servers-> Output.yourservername->Properties.

I would also check the size of this directory as historical instances may be chewing up disk space.

I manually deleted it anyway...did not work
Pointed my temp dir's to another location...did not work
Changed it back to its orig location...did not work
Rebooted the server...Worked???...maybe a combination of something I did.

Very strange indeed!

Thanks anyway!

If you have a look in the EVENTVWR for your CE server it will show if the server is running low on disk space around the time the report is running. This may help as it is a problem we have.

Excuse my ignorance but where is EVENTVWR? Or are you taklking about task manager?

Hi there,
on the server that CE runs on go to the Start Menu and select RUN. When prompted type in EVENTVWR and hit ENTER. This runs the Event Viewer which shows items of interest that have occurred on the server.

If you select the System item from the list and scroll down looking for events around the time of the report failure this may shed some light on it.
