Hi I hope someone can help.

I have a NT4 service pack 5 site running backup exec v7.2.

The problem I am having is that the backup is failing with the error "Not enough disk space to write catalogs". This is not the case as the drive has over 16GB of space free.

So I have stopped and restarted all the backup exec services, rebooted the server (as advice from veritas), recreated the backup job and even deleted the topcat.idx files and recreated to try to solve this.

I have also moved the catalogs to another drive, with enough space free although its only 1.6Gb!!!! I am only keeping 5 days of catalogs and they are written to the default location c:\program files\ etc.....

I have even tried a complete reinstall of the software, although this was over the old install. Before I uninstall and re install, I just wanted to see if anyone out there has had the same problem.

TIA

Paul

Here is what I would do,

Make backup of registry and I always like to make a rdisk before doing something like this, only takes a few minutes and could save A LOT of time if something goes crazy :)

Uninstall BE7.2
Reboot
Clean all BE files and directories off of c drive
Run regedit delete everything you can find with backup exec or seagate/veritas in here

Reboot again
Install BE7.2 and install patches from and see how it does. Have done this a few times and always seem to clean up BE.

If this dosen't work then I would look at formating and reloading NT. But I think it will take care of your problem.

Good Luck!! A+ MCP

Have you tried updating to NT SP 6? Doubt it will cure your problem, but who knows?

Go into the directory of Backup Exec. In there you should find the catalogs folder.
Make sure that only files with the following extension are there:

.U01
.idx
.ldb

Delete everything else.
I also would consider updating to 7.3 build 2575
