I have a Micro$oft Natural Keyboard Pro, Soyo SY-K7VTA-B Motherboard, and am running Win 2K Pro SP-2 (not an OS issue, same prob w/ 98SE) The problem is that when the system is totally turned off via the power button, when restarted the keyboard is not detected. The only way I have found around it is to unplug and replug the keyboard while the BIOS boot screen is showing the error and then hit the reset button on the front of the box (which I know is a boo-boo, not supposed to unplug a PS2 connection while system is powered up)This problem used to be sporadic, but now it happens every time. Is there a setting in the BIOS that should be changed? Thanks in advance for the help.

Have you tried just a plain old $10 PS/2 keyboard to see if problem still occurs. It could quite possibly be a Bios timing issue...I have seen problems with not only certain keyboards, but also certain keyboard manufacturing sites!!

Could be a hardware issue where one of the signal lines is not being pulled up/down to indicate a keyboard is present...and forcing this "hotswap" appears to kick start it.

So, try a simple, plain, cheap keyboard...if it fails in the same manner I would suspect a hardware issue...I am not aware of settings in the Bios specific to the PS/2 controller...you can perform a cmos/Bios reset to factory defaults to see if it helps.

The only option I've ever found in the bios related to the ps-2 is some motherboards have an option for On/Off. Since these are mutually exclusive options, I agree with the response listed by Doug. Try another kb. If that doesn't help, try another mb.
Good Luck. hg
