Hi there,

I just recently subscribed to this website, and decided maybe you guys/gals could help me out with a problem I am experiencing on my other computer.

I have stored my university class assignments on it and I REALLY need to get it working.

Anyway, I was talking to some friends over msn, when suddenly my computer just shut off. I wasn't sure what happened, so I turned it on again but it comes up with a "Boot Disk Failure". Last time I had this exact message, I had a virus, does anyone have any idea's on how I can get my windows to start up again? I really need to access my university assignments. :(

Thanks for your time,

Puppensud

First check and make sure your disk drive cable (that's the wide one) is OK. Carefully remove the cable (both ends) and re-attach (making sure you are attaching the same way it came off). A bad cable or a bad drive is about the only thing that would give that error. What OS? If Win 98, you can try the drive in another computer.

Good suggestions from micker.

Also, if you're using Windows 98, you can check if a virus is causing the problem by starting the computer with a Windows boot floppy inserted(make sure the floppy drive is configured ahead of the HD as a boot device in BIOS), select 'Start without CD-ROM support' using the arrow keys, press the Enter key, at the A:\> prompt type C: and press Enter, at the C:\> prompt type fdisk /mbr and press Enter.

Does the drive spin up when you turn the power on? Do you get any POST beeps? Do you get any time out messages when booting? Do all your other componets work? How old is the pc? The power supply?
