hi, well when ya plug in the comp fans start with out hitting power button and nothing else starts. power button does nothing,no monitor,im thinking power supply? this is a hp pavilion 6638 533mhz celeron

It can also be caused by a bad MB.

There are a number of steps to follow to rule out different part failures.
OPen the case-reseat all connectors remove the ram..........power up......does it beep-if so how many times, describe it.
It could be any hardware part to be honest although the power supply is the most obvious here as it is powering on on its own.
let me know whats happening when u try the above.

Check to see if the Power or Reset button is sticking on the case. I had to remove Power button on my EX-wife's computer to shut her up!
