I am trying to login to a server that I am "Supose" to have access to. Sometimes I can login, and other times it tells me that I have to be a member of the remote desktop group in order to login to the server. I am not physically able to get to the server to logon it locally, so I have to use remote desktop. Our hosted group says that they have given me persmissions to the box but since it is a DC, they can't gaurantee that I will be able to login all the time. I find it hard to understand that since it is a DC, I can't login sometimes when I can hit all the other servers in our group with no problems through remote desktop. Is there a work around I can tell these dorks so I can remote to this particular server? Any suggestions?

Zero......

they can't guarantee that I will be able to login all the time"

Since it is a DC, extremely unlikely they have the full Terminal Server Application mode, as it would make the DC very vulnerable (and they value their employment), but rather the limited Remote Administration mode for security reasons, which limits you to two remote logins, and one console login. If two RDP sessions are being used, you will not gain access.

Well, you can gain remote access to the console session

What are you trying to do on the DC? It sounds like you are getting hung up by too many rdp connections (like everyone else has already said).

I don't know how familiar you are with 2003, but there are a lot of options for working on a server without actually being logged on (either physically or through rdp). It just depends on what you are trying to do.

Do you have the adminpak.msi installed on your workstation?
