Admins logging in.

When any admins log in they get an error saying :
"windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile"

After logging in you can see that the profile being used in documents and settings is called "TEMP" and is discarded when logging off.

We have over 100 windows servers and this is the only one that it is happening on. I had a look at the local policy settings and can see nothing relating to this., Does anyone know what could be causing it.?

Corrupt local copy of the profile. Delete the existing profile and let it be recreated.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

thanks, but the profile was never created in the 1st place.

Are you using Roaming Profiles?

Are you trying to log-in locally or remotely? When you say "profile was never created" what exactly do you mean? Has no one ever logged into this machine locally before???

thanks - that was the answer. to log on to the server locally. We were trying to log on via rdp with accounts that are linked to a roaming profile that doesnt exist. when the server realised that the roaming profile path didnt exist it was trying to create a new profile, but a policy prevents local prolfiles being craeted over rdp. once I logged onto the console and i was then able to attach to the created profile. cheers.
