I am having an issue with MS Office 2003 on one paticular computer where they are not able to open certain PowerPoint files. When you try to open the file it says

PowerPoint not able to read c:\Document & Settings\......filename.

I can take that same file on any other computer and open it in PowerPoint 2003 with no problem.

On the computer that is having the problem I am able to open some PowerPoint files. There seems to be no ryhme or reason to it the files that I am not able to open were created in PowerPoint 2003. It is like PowerPoint is not reconizing the file as a PowerPoint file. Has anyone seen this issue before and have any suggestions?

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing MS Office, I have checked to make sure that PowerPoint is the application set to open PowerPoint files.

Hi,

On the subject PC, can you start PowerPoint?

Yes I can start PowerPoint I can even open some PowerPoint files. And of the PowerPoint files I can't open on this machine I can open them on other machines. Really Wierd!

Does this happen in the same directory? Do you open the file from powerpoint menu (file>open)? Is anything specific in the file you can't open (embedded objects, activex controls, code)?

Is it certain files only or all files? Try looking for a file with PCB extension and rename or delete it.
