Not much success when attempting to insert a Power View Report in MS Excel 2016.

Note, the overall objective is to create a standalone dashboard in MS Excel using Power View and 3D Map and distribute to end user via Citrix on the website.

Using MS Excel 2016 32 bit (Office 2016 Professional Plus) on a 64 bit laptop.

Upon converting data similar to the following (minus the geographical data) within MS Excel to a table, I then click "Insert Power View Report" and
receive the error - "Activate method of OLEObject failed."

Researching via the internet appears to suggest that I need to modify registry entries to resolve the error.

Any insight as to how to resolve without modifying registry entries?

Have reviewed security settings and disabled all other add-ins but not yet able to resolve the error.

Will continue to trouble shoot but just thought that someone may have encountered this issue and resolved without modifying registry entries.

Thanks in advance.

This almost certainly because Office 365 (2016) as of last month blocks activation of Flash, Silverlight, and Shockwave control - and Power View uses Silverlight. Unfortunately I am not aware of any way of allowing Office 2016 to activate Silverlight controls without making registry changes

Did modify the registry;

Created the node "COM Compatibility" at registry key

Then, I added a subkey with the value "{DFEAF541-F3E1-4c24-ACAC-99C30715084A}"

Now, I have

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\COM Compatibility\{DFEAF541-F3E1-4c24-ACAC-99C30715084A}

Finally, I added the two REG_DWORD values - "Compatibility Flags" with a value of 0 and "ActivationFilterOverride" with a value of 1.

To recap, I have a Microsoft Windows 7 Professional operating system on a 64-bit laptop with MS Excel 32 bit.

Still receive the error - "Activate method of OLEObject failed."

Any additional insight regarding a resolution of the error or a viable low cost alternative to Power View is appreciated.
