Hi,

I have a few files uploaded in Sharepoint that people use from time to time to open and update the file and then check it back in. Lately on one of the files one of the users is not able to enable macros. Once the OPTIONS(by the security warning) button is clicked the message displayed is below.

This file contains encrypted macros that have been disable because there is no antivirus software installed that can scan them. To run these macros, remove the encryption or permission restrictions on the file.

There is no option to enable macros.

All the excel files are protected workbooks and can only be edited using a form. The user is unable to enable macros on only one of those files.

Any help is appreciated.

That message appears to be nonsense. I am very suspicious of it.

I don't really know SharePoint so it is possible this is a message from SharePoint, and that SharePoint has some independent encryption and/or other security mechanism, but it doesn't feel right.

In the rest of Office, prior to 2007 (or in files saved in compatibility mode in 2007) there is no encryption of macros at all. In 2007, macros are encrypted along with the rest of any encrypted file, but they are not independently encrypted.

To the best of my knowledge, no part of Office requires that antivirus software be installed or used. You don't say whether the user in question is actually using any.

A quick search for the message turns up nothing helpful. I repeat, I am suspicious of it.

Enjoy,
Tony

I'm working (slowly) on my own website

Figured out what the problem was. Somehow this excel file was encrypted. To change that I clicked on the office button--> Prepare --> Encrypt Document and then changed the setting so it is not encrypted anymore.
Thanks for your help..
