Hello Everyone and Happy New Year!

I am working on this Sony laptop Windows XP Pro SP2. According to the event viewer there were a couple of mild viruses that Symantec was able to delete and there was also a case of some malware, which after it was removed the LSP configuration was not set back to default and so the laptop was not able to load Windows Firewall. I reloaded the default LSP which allows Windows firewall to load. I uninstalled the drivers for all NICs, restart the laptop and reload them and I run the antivirus to check for anything without any luck. If I manually setup the IP address and default gateway, the laptop will connect to my network but it will not communicate. I can see the laptop on my network Neighborhood window on one of my computers but I cannot open any share folders from the laptop. I cannot ping microsoft.com either.

Any suggestions?

Your help would be greatly appreciated,

Steve

try running winsockfix?

If norton security is running, try disabling it (personally would never have it on any machine of mine, but...) temporarily. Then if it will now connect, work out how to configure it (or remove & use something more sensible!)

Hey Wolluf! Winsockfix did the trick!!!!

I am just curious, I know there was a problem with Winsock because Windows firewall would not load (error 10047) so in the past I used the command line "netsh winsock reset" reboot and I would be like new. In this case, Windows firewall was able to reload but not internet connection... How come?

At any rate I am really happy with your help and knowing a new tool.

Steven
