I have system 9.2 running on a blue & white Mac G3. I have Norton Utilities system 9. In my Mac I have the main harddrive and two other harddrive discs. When I run Norton Utilities Disk Doctor it fixes all problems on all discs fine. But, when I go to Optimize the disc with Speed Disc it optimizes the other two discs fine, but freezes up or gives me error messages on the main harddrive. I am unable to run Speed Disk to defragment and optimize the main harddrive. I run Norton as the startup disc on the computer to fix the problems. Does anyone know why I can't Speed Optimize my main disc? Is it because my Operating system is 9.2 and Norton is OS 9? Thanks.

1. you don't say which version of norton you are using, it si reasonably well known that inconsistencies with Norton Utilities, usually come from using a version that is not up to date with your operating system. Personally i like to use it in tandem with Alsofts disk warrior.

2. Some users forget that when using Norton it is similar to the single user correction mode in Unix, in that you must run it again and again, until it comes up with no problems found. Disk problems expecially indexing ones, often comes in layers, in that an intial problem creates another and so on. Have you only run Norton Once...then run it again and again until it comes up no problems then run speed disk!
