Hello,

I just upgraded from the NIS 2007 to NIS 2008. I have the internet explorer icon on my desktop and I have a shortcut to Google.com as well...When I click on the Google.com shortcut first it doesn't connect and freezes up...when I click on the internet explorer first it connects fine. If I have the internet explorer open and THEN click on Google.com shortcut the shortcut connects successfully...is there something with the firewall that prevents the use of shortcuts from your desktop? Is there any way to disable that feature??? None of my shortcuts connect when they're the first thing clicked.

Hi memphis44,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team responding to your post.

The simple answer to your question regarding Norton Internet Security disallowing shortcuts to websites to open is "No."

If the shortcut pointed to a site that, for example, is suspected of containing Phishing scams or some other security threat, Norton Internet Security would notify you with a message alerting you to the issue.

The first thing to do is to delete the shortcut to Google on your desktop and recreate it.

Next, I would clear all of your Temporary Internet files in IE.

The other thing to make sure of is that your LiveUpdate settings are set correctly. One of the new features of Norton Internet Security 2008 is that the LiveUpdate function is now automatic, meaning it will run in the background as long as your computer is logged in and connected to the Internet.

To check this setting, please follow these steps.

1. Make sure that your Internet connection is working properly.

2. Click "Start,"->"All Programs,"->"Norton Internet Security,"->"Norton Internet Security." In the main window, click on the "Norton Internet Security" tab at the top of the window.

4. Click on the arrow next to "Settings" to expand the options. Click on "Automatic LiveUpdate," and click on the "Configure" button. Make sure that there is a check in the box next to "Turn on Automatic Updates." Even if it is checked, un-check it and then recheck it.

5. Click the "Apply" button and then click "OK."

This process should reset the Automatic LiveUpdate feature and apply any available updates.

Reply back to this thread and let me know if this resolved your issue.

Thanks, and have a great day,

Mike
