I am running Windows ME and IE 5.5 SP2, with Norton Antivirus installed previously. This weekend I installed Norton Internet Security, with privacy and security levels at mid point on sliding scale (default) and normal adbanner on. My first Internet session after installation through a normal 56K modem operationg at 40 000 connection speed, was very slow in downloading web pages almosy to the point of stop. Also during this session I got a security alert to a "trojan" trying to infiltrate my system. I understand the need for security on the internet, but I need to use it too! Any help on settings or previous experience?

Trash the Norton, and get Zonealarm.
Norton security actually compares evey site you go to, with it's list of "approved" websites, thus slowing your browsing down to a crawl. Cheers,
Jim

yea Norton slows to a dreadful pace! disable the scanning of .dll files and it will speed it up considerably. Jay~

Thanks Comtech,Keytech and paulwood for your advice. Firstly how do I disable the scanning of .dll files?
Secondly, I have heard a lot about Zonealarm, so I am seriously thinking about it. However does the free download provide Anti Virus protection, which would enable me toget rid of Norton AV as well as NIS?
Also does Zone alarm have a Internet Live Update facility, like Norton, to keep my system up to scratch?

Zone Alarm Pro has automatic email quarantine, but not full AV protection, I'm not sure about the free version, but it runs fine with McAfee AV so I don't suppose it will have a problem with Norton. It does check for updates automatically if you set up the option.

Keep the Norton AV, but dump the rest of the package (just uninstall the whole thing, then do a custom install, selecting only the AV portion, and LiveUpdate).
Get ZA, and you can have it automatically check for updates as well. Cheers,
Jim
