Norton Internet Security 2005 causes very slow booting

Hope this is on-topic....

After the recent installation of Norton Internet Security 2005, which includes Norton Antivirus, the hard-disk clicks away for about 4 minutes during boot-up and I have to wait for this process to end before any programmes can be accessed.

Prior to installation, the boot-up was quite fast. What exactly may be causing this and what settings should I change?

Win XP Home,Dell desktop (stand-alone,not in network).
