Hi All,

I have had Norton Internet Security 2004 on my Windows Me system for three months (an upgrade from NIS 2003). After each clean install it gradually becomes increasingly "buggy" over several weeks with the computer locking up repeatedly and an occassional blue screen. Eventually I get the error code 3029,19 "Norton AnitVirus 2004 has encountered an internal program error...", sometimes followed by 5007,102 "Norton Interenet Security as encountered an internal program error..."

I have a carefully followed all the suggestions from their knowledge base documents (and their e-mail support which was kind of lame "we suggest you uninstall and reinstall...") for both these error codes which includes uninstalling and reinstalling all symantec products. In addition I have each time after uninstalling everything using the control panel Add/Remove function:

Run Rnav2003.exe for each year from 2000-2003
Run RnisUPG.exe

I have also deleted if they are present:
Program Files\Norton Internet Security folder
Program Files Norton AntiVirus folder
Program Files \Common Files\Symantec shared folder
Windows\apllication data\symantec
the reg keys HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\Software\Symantec
and HKEY CURRENT USER\Software\Symnantec
deleted all temporary files at %temp%

Run the w32.Klez removal tool (which found nothing)
Run Internet Explorer repair
Disabled Microsoft Restore

While re-installing:
downloaded the latest version of NIS2004.exe from Symantec
Kept all other unnecessary applications turned off while installing NIS 2004
emptied bowser cache after install

Sorry, this is so lengthy, but you can see I have tried all the obvious and commonly accepted things. I'm just hoping someone else has seen and solved this.

Thanks in advance, Peedo (Peter VH)

Unfortunately, this may just be the way it runs on your system.

However, have you updated the antivirus and scanned?

Have you scanned for spywares? I prefer Spybot, don't forget to update that as well.

Matt J.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

Thanks, Matt. Good suggestions all. I have Spybot and Spyware Blaster (both up-to-date) and I do a virus scan weekly which has always been negative. You may well be right; it may just be a problem with my current system. I just may have to give up and try McAfee although there's no guarantee I'll fare better there. Any other thoughts would be welcome...thanks for your time. Peter VH
