Norton didn't detect spyware WinPC Antivirus

I have the most current version on Norton Antivirus,
but i was just hit w/ a spyware: WinPC Antivirus...

so I locate the file that I found running on my task manager: winpc.exe and deleted it. I'm not sure that I'm
going about this issue the right way. All of the advice
i've been reading online to remove the spyware just
recommend using a spyware remover, which I believe I paid
for. I don't understand why it's not doing it's job and
i'm doing all the work.

pls help!

Note:
WhenI try to update norton through LiveUpdate it tells me
that there are No New Updates and tells me it's updated,
but on my menu it shows that my protection updates are "at
risk."

Sorry you've not gotten a response in this much time. I'll try to give you a little info, and suggest you try a different forum if you need further help.

1. No one product can fully protect any computer in our day - there are too many baddies out there, and too many being created every day. There is just too much to trust ANY company, even as big as Symantec, to keep up with it all.

2. Just b/c you got an antivirus program, does not mean you've also got Antispyware protection.

Now to fix it, assuming you're still trying:
Download and install these if you can: (all from

http://www.download.com)

1. Super Antispyware
2. Malwarebytes Antimalware
3. SpywareBlaster (won't help to get rid of, but will help prevent reinfection.
4. CCleaner - cleans temp files, where these things like to hide, at least occasionally.
5. Windows Defender - if you are using Windows XP, you need to download this - it's free by Microsoft. It's included in Vista and Windows 7, as well, I'm sure.
6. IOBit Advanced System Care - works on a bunch of things, including at least some minor malware/spyware scans - good overall app.
7. Glary Utilities - same as #6

If all of that doesn't do it, try posting over in the following forum for more help:
