Hello All-

I run Norton SystemWorks 2002 on a Windows Me machine and currently have email scanning enabled for both incoming and outgoing mail in my anti-virus settings. I'm using Outlook for my emailing. Recently (last few weeks) the "Scanning Outgoing Mail" dialog box and progress bar shows up when checking my mail. Here's the problem...I'm not sending anything and nothing shows up in my outbox when it's done.

I've scanned my system over and over using the latest definitions and am coming up clean for viruses. I've also run AdAware 5.8 and am coming up clean for spyware.

Anyone have any clue about what's causing this to happen? Is Symantec sending info back to itself? Do I have some sort of virus/worm/spyware emailing stuff out of my system? Any help would be awesome.

You mention that you have been doing virus scans and they are coming back clean. Try using norton virus scan from there site. If you are clean of viruses from there you do not have a known virus on your computer. Some worms and trojans propagate by attaching themselves to your address book and sending out to contacts in your address book. The W32. Klez virus it will also alter the headers to make email appear that it was sent from another contact in your address book. The contact receving the virus usually has no way knowing where the virus is really coming from as they think they are receiving from another contact. In short I feel there is a good chance you may have W.32KlezH@mm worm. this worm attacks firewall and antivirus software as some as it executes on an infected computer . Therefore rendering your own antivirus useless.
A check at symantec will confirm one way or the other, and I hope I am wrong.Good Luck.
