Norton Antivirus + Outlook Express - can not recieve attachments

hello
i have norton antivirus installed on my windows XP machine. i use outlook express as my email client. every time i get emails with attachments (be it ms word, excel, zip, etc) it appears shaded in grey when i click on the paper clip icon to view attachments (ie cant open them)
does anyone know why? and how do i get rid of this annoying feature? does it have to do with norton antivirus at all? if you could list the steps i'd appreciate it a lot

It has nothing to do with Norton AV. See: thread605-911114-Outlook Express is removing attachments

Tools>Options>Security.

Uncheck Do not allow attachments.... blah, blah, blah, click Ok, and restart the program.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.
