Anyone ever have this problem???

When I try to run Norton Anti-Virus, I get the following message:

"An error has occured in the scripts on this page", showing an error on line 66, Char 2, error in loading DLL for the following URL: scanProg.htm

Whether I select continue or stop running scripts Norton Anti-Virus 2005 hangs up.

I first tried to uninstall, then re-install Norton Anti-Virus. When that didn't work, I uninstalled all of Norton System Works and re-installed it. I still get the same error AND I can't find anything on Symantec's site regarding this problem.

HELP anyone,

Thanks,

Samsays

With a call to scanProg.htm - (which is part of a DLL file, you won't be able to search/find it on your PC) - however, you should be able to unregister and re-register the DLL.

From your command prompt:
regsvr32 -u "c:\program files\norton antivirus\navcomui.dll"
(also - since you tried system works, your path may be something like this:
regsvr32 -u "c:\program files\norton systemworks\norton antivirus\navcomui.dll")

Once you've unregisterd the DLL (navcomui.dll) re-register it at the command prompt:
regsvr32 "c:\program files\norton antivirus\navcomui.dll"
- or -
regsvr32 "c:\program files\norton systemworks\norton antivirus\navcomui.dll"

Again - your install path(s) may be different - but that should give you a good place to start. In addition, a couple other things that could cause similar symptoms would be in you had Adware SE or an antiSpyware suite running during install. Sometimes those programs will block entries to the registry.
And last but not least - the complete removal. As you know, sometimes the uninstall just don't get it done. The following document highlights steps (w/reg keys) that you can manually take to ensure your system is completely wiped clean before trying another reinstall.
Steps to Remove

Good Luck.
