Hi,

I want to remove Norton 2007 completely from my hard disk.

Norton has been installed by club-internet which is a FAI( fournisseur d'accès internet , like for example : hotmail )

First i have opened windows as an administrator and i have removed Norton from control panel/ modifiy/supression of programms

Secondly, i have removed in the register( start+run+regedit)
these folders

Hkey_local_machine\software\symantec
Hkey_local_machine\software\Symnrt\Lmd as asked in the explanation given by the FAI club-internet
as i already done it in another case

I have loaded SymNrtRemoval.exe(version 2007.2.1.9)

I have received then this message

"the norton removal tool version is expired"

I don't understand this message because i have done exactly
as it was asked.
Moreover, isee the Symantec Folder's sub folders are not entirely removed from the register

Could you ehlp me to solve this problem because i am frightened with this.

Perhaps it is simply a problem of version.

Thanks a lot from you for your help, because i have worked on a friend computer and very frightened if i have done something very wrong...[nosmiley]

Best regards.
Nathalie

Hi and thanks alot for your help.
I did not try yet this version but if it does not work what do you advice me to do, to reinstall Norton?

Someone told me i had to remove first the Liveupdatze folder before suppressing the Norton Program with the control panel/add-suppressing programs.

What do you think about this?

Thanks alot again for your help.
Regards.

When you uninstalled Norton via Add/Remove programs did you also uninstall LiveUpdate? I don't think the order of which it is removed will have any effect. I would first try out the new version of the Norton Removal Tool and see if that works for you. If you are still having problems getting Norton off your system, I found this and maybe it will work for you --

The order I use to un-install Norton products is:

1) Un-install Norton product - re-boot.
2) Un-install Live Update and LiveReg - reboot.
3) Use Norton Removal Tool - reboot.
4) Carry out manual hard disk search for Norton and Symantec folders - delete.
5) Carry out manual Registry search for Norton and Symantec entries - delete (with caution... make a backup first).

Hope this helps...

Hi and thanks a lot.

The problem is that i don't know how to make a backup first .
Could you explain me how to do?

Thanks alot again for your help.

Regards.

Nathalie

Before you delete anything in the Registry it is always a good idea to export the key first. Then, if anything goes wrong, you can always import the key back in again.

For example, Symantec makes many other products as well as Norton 2007 so you need a backup in case you remove a registry entry needed for another Symantec product.

Expand any entries you find by clicking on the + sign alongside the key. If it looks like the whole key is relevant then right-click on it, select 'Export' and save the key then right-click on it again and select 'Delete'. If it looks like only a sub-key is relevant then just export then delete only the sub-key.

Keep the .reg files that you exported until you are happy that only Norton 2007 has been removed and that any other Symantec products are still working as they should.

If any other Symantec products have stopped working then you can double-click on the saved .reg files and import them back into the registry. This will save you having to re-install the other Symantec products.

If you're not confident of editing the Registry manually then don't do it. Microsoft articles advise against it all the time. However, sometimes it's the only way to achieve a certain effect (especially with poor product un-installers).

Hope this helps...
