Norton 2004 disable auto protect

I have a company notebook that is used primarily for meeting presentations (powerpoint) that has norton antivirus 2004. This last week right in the middle of an important meeting a message popped up informing me to update. so...

1. I would really like to keep these messages coming but i would like to know if i can make them appear during a specific time? This way my users can expect them.

2. if i cannot schedule when they show up then i must disable them. if i temporarily disable auto protect, will this eliminate ALL warning or error messages from popping up?
