I need some help. I work for a university and am trying to use a third party vendor located in Malaysia. They are using VPN to do a remote install of a software package. They originally deployed the product in 11-2007 without any problems. They have since made upgrades to the software and hardware and have been trying to perform the upgrades via VPN. They have had access on two occasions for 4 consecutive days on copies of the original accounts. On the fourth day, the connection abruptly stops, attempts on re-connection fails. We then have a new copy of the account made and they are able to get back in only to have the same thing happen on the fourth day. My IT dept. claims it is a "dirty" connect since they are in Malaysia. Does anyone agree with this or know of a setting within Nortel VPN that would not allow International access? I am not getting any help from my IT dept. because they have had their toes stepped on and are feeling threatened by this vendor, there is no reason for their actions. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi tman34,

The only countries that Nortel doesn't allow the use of their encyrption software (part of their VPN code)is:
Afghanistan Iraq Sudan
Cuba Libya Syria
Iran North Korea
So Malaysis SHOULD not be considered "dirty".
Can you give us any details of the VPN connectivity?
Which boxes on both side, what kind of firewalls? Has anyone examined the logs on the Contivity box(es)
-or whichever Nortel vpn box(es) are being used?

Thank you for your response. My main problem is with my IT director, he won't provide that information to me. They are being very secretive and won't help much at all. Unfortunately, I think they have gotten too far into their lies that they are trying to find other solutions. They have offered a remoting tool called Illuminate. They are supposed to be trying it today, we will see if it works. Thanks again.

You're welcome. If you do find out info, we can be of some assistance. :)O
