HAS ANYONE USED THE VOIP GATEWAY TO CONNECT MICS AND CICS OR MICS AND MICS?

I HAVE A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS ABOUT THE UNIT.

DOES IT WORK WELL IF THE REMOTE SITES ARE NETWORKED WITH A VPN/ MY CUSTOMER WAS TOLD THIS WAS A VERY BAD WAY TO GO. THAT CALLS WERE CHOPPY AND NOT GOOD QUALITY. ANY TRUTH TO THAT?

I THINK I KNOW THE ANSWER TO THIS ONE, BUT HERE GOES ANYWAY. DOES IT NEED TO BE A NORSTAR ON BOTH ENDS, OR CAN YOU PUT A MICS ON ONE END AND AN AVAYA OR CISCO ON THE OTHER?

THANKS

Wrong forum, but I'll toss out my thoughts.

VPN as the connection medium is as good as the connection. if you use the same ISP at both ends, you'll have better luck. That being said, you may experience no issues, or you may experience many issues. Since there is no QOS on the Internet, it's up in the air. If you're using it strictly for interoffice communication, and can tolerate potential choppiness, etc, then go for it.

The gateway is obviously only supported on a Nortel platform, but since it uses loop start trunks to interface between the gateway and the switch, it **should** work with any type of equipment.

biv343 is right, you can use a butt set to place calls so it will work on anything that accepts analog dial tone.

I have used the unit on a private wan,(6ms ping times) no QOS and the call quality was actually better than POTS.

PS used it from MICS to MICS, MICS to BCM, it works. Ping time is the key. Up to 50ms you will be fine after 50 it slowly degrades up to 150ms. 150ms is barely useable.
