Esteemed colleagues,

Greetings and best wishes for the New Year!

Please forgive my ignorance which comes from a lack of experience (or perhaps a slip-up in my reading) but can anyone enlighten me as to whether or not the IP Office also supports the i2002 & i2004 models of Nortel phones?

My gratitude as always for your kind assistance.

Mike

No 2002, 2004 or 2007 support as those phones can't run SIP loads. Just 1220/1230/1120/1140 IP sets and the Norstar/BCM digital sets.

Thanks very much biv343. That's bad news for us but very helpful.

you can find this information in the Knowledge Base. I recommend you get an SSO login if you dont have one.

Always try as hard as you can to avoid using any Nortel/Norstar IP sets on IP Office they don't work the same as they used to and are clunky to use at best, digital sets are fine save for a couple of bugs :)

Thanks, both, for your additional input. HSM I have SSO login but had not had much need before to investigate Nortel integration till now. Hence my lack of reading there. :)

I would love to avoid using the Nortel phones altogether as the IPO feature delivery is not up to par with the native Avaya phones. However the cost savings to many potential customers is a very compelling option.

Hello again team.
On second thoughts, would the Nortel IP phones work using the 3rd Party Endpoint licences?

Possibly, I don't think they will.. but the cost of that licence means using a proper Avaya handset would be more appealing anyway as it's fully supported and gives a full feature set. 3rd party is make, take and maybe transfer, that's it :)

Friends, as a second option we were thinking of re-using the Nortel digital phones and replacing the IP phones with 16XXs. I've heard that this wasn't allowed but is THAT the case or is that only true if you're using a Nortel SD card?

Yes - well that should always be the answer to a badly phrased question.

If the IP Office system can support IP phones (ie. its not one of the Basic Edition modes) then it doesn't care whether whether they are Nortel IP or 1600 Series or 9600 Series - same licenses, same VCM requirements.

You can use Nortel phones and 1600's together no problem, in ip office mode any supported handset can be used with any other supported handset, who told you otherwise?

Our regional Avaya sales representative told us that we had to be ALL digital if we were using Nortel digital phones. However I believe in that scenario we were contemplating operating in Nortel mode (i.e. using the Nortel SD card).

I've done it at a handful of sites and it works fine intermingling nortel digital sets and avaya digital/IP sets. The biggest issue I've had is the people with the Nortel sets want one of the Avaya phones after they've seen them.

Too true! :) What's bad is when the lazy ones want a "new" system that behaves exactly like the old one without a learning curve!

Exactly. I've replaced quite a few Nortel phones once the users saw them.
