I have access to the Nortel website to download patches, peps, etc..I understand the general concept of what needs to be done, but when something needs downloaded or activated I must go to my tech support group and wait....It just gets to be a pain having to wait when I could just do it myself...
ld 143
mdcs return will give you the commands to install patches, the bad thing about that command and the reason it's not in the book is that it is a write over, the file must contain all the files you need. on a larger switch the files must be on the drive f0:/ for the option 11 they need to be in a folder f0:/folder of course you can use either f drive, it must be active
Mr.Poole, thank you for your response...but, do you know how patches would be loaded remotely and then activated renotely? I knew about Ld 143 and the mdcs, but I did not know how support loaded and activated remotely...Do they login thru PDT?
yes from pdt you can copy the files more like the old dos commands, 99 out of 100 patches are active without an ini. that can be done thru pdt, but i almost never ini if i am not on site. if the switch fails to boot, i sorta want to be in the switchroom.. i do not post pdt commands or passwords ever..
Be careful if you do. There are some patch conflicts with the older dependency patches that may have been installed when the switch was turned up.
Also the mdcs actually takes all existing patches out of service, removes them, then installs the new ones. If you have any site dependent patches (ones speciffically for your site) they will need to be reinstlled after running the mdcs as they are usually not included. It is usually best to wait on your tech support or Nortel.
