We have one Nortel Option 11 with 3 cabinets installed with the integrated Companion DECT system.
The DECT system is installed with 12 DECT bases.
Earlier we used to have up to 230 Nortel companion DECT handsets installed and the system worked satisfactory.
One year ago we began to install DECT handset from another vendor. As DECT is an international standard, we expected no problems. After our engineer now has installed 170 DECT handsets, we experienced some problems, as it was not possible to get a dial tone.
200 DECT handsets were installed of this new handset type and at least 30 handsets could not access a dial tone.
So we found out that just inslling 170 DECT handset fo the new type and leaving 50 handsets of the Nortel Companion type (C4020), then the system worked satisfactory.
In the Nortel system there are licenses for 240 DECT handsets. 10 of these were not used at all.
Maybe you have had the same experience?

AFAIK DECT standard had several modifications.
Are the handsets mentioned GAP-compatible?

Yes!
We are using the DECT handset (from the other vendor/ brand) with other costumers having both Nortel, Ericsson, LG-Nortel, AVAYA etc.
The DECT handsets are GAP/CAP compatible.
