Hi all,

I am no long able to access the web front-end for Nortel Networks Business Communications Manager 3.7. When I try and access the page I get either a time out or "Error: The requested URL could not be retrieved" when I have done nothing to stop the access.

I can still access it via telnet but I am unable to do what I need to from there.

Has anyone came across this issue before and know how to get around it? I am very apprehensive about restarting it as if it does not come back up correctly we will be in big trouble.

Thanks

have you recently done any re-imaging or somewhat?

No there has been nothing done at all to the box for over a year and half that I have been working with it and I am 99.9% sure nothing has ever been done to it other than the standard setup at the beginging and the odd name change every now and again.

You should reboot the lan card could of locked up.I have seen this before.

Thanks. I will take that step and see how things turn out.

Thank you for your help

If you can telnet and/or ping it doesnt sound like the lan card is locked up.

I would reboot your PC first to make sure that is not the issue ( we all know windows quirks) before troubleshooting the BCM right away

I have tried accessing it from several computers with two versions off IE (6 & 7)

I am able to ping the switch and also able to access it via telnet so it seems to be only the web front-end

Have you loaded any Java updates recently? There is a known
issue with newer Java versions and the BCM unified manager.

I'm running into this same issue with a BCM 3.6 system. The java issue should not prevent explorer from presenting a log-on page. I'm thinking it's a services issue. What service running on the BCM controls the web presentation services?
I've noticed on my box that the apache service is "stopped" and when I try to perform a restart through the terminal port I get the message "The data area passed to a ssytem call is too small". Any ideas?

Sorry I didn't mean to hijack the thread but the problem is so similar.

Sounds like you might have the start of a hard drive problem.

If you can get into via the serial port, go to the command line and put in "net start apache", then immediately try to access it through the browser.

I had a system like that and the apache server would only stay up for about a minute at a time. What a royal pain that was.

At least that way you get a shot at retrieving your voicemail configuration and export your greetings (one minute at a time). Then you can replace the hard drive and do a telephony restore and reconfigure your voicemail.

Download and install the 3.7 Apache Server patch from Nortel. Then try again.

I have a simple suggestion. How about clearing all the cache on your internet browser. I have had this same issue with the old 3.7. I would simply clear cookies, history, and restart IE. Then it will open up again. Pure web browser issue.

Hi guys!

Thanks for all your help on this and apologies for the late reply but once we done a full reboot on the switch we have been able to use the most recent version of Java to get access to it with no problems at all!

Thanks all!

Give it a week or two and you won't have access anymore unless you apply the SSL patch..

My 2 cents..
